Cahill was born in Sydney, New South Wales to an English father of Irish descent and a Samoan mother, and was encouraged to play football as a child. He grew up moving between homes around Sydney’s south, west and inner west. He has an older sister Opa, older brother Sean and younger brother Chris. As a youngster, Cahill played football for Balmain Police Boys Club and Marrickville Football Club.

Tim’s parents had taken out a loan for him to travel to England and trial with professional football clubs. Millwall signed him in 1997 and he made his debut the following year. Tim went on to win the second division with Millwall breaking a club record of 93 points in the 2000-2001 season. He also played a central role in that year’s FA Cup run, reaching the final against Man Utd.

Tim debuted for the Socceroos in 2004 against South Africa. His career for the Socceroos has included numerous highlights, including scoring the first-ever goal by an Australian in the World Cup Finals in 2006. In 2015, Tim was a part of the Socceroos side that won the Asian cup.

Everton Signed Tim for £1.5 million in July 2004. In his first season at the club, he ended as top goalscorer and was the fans’ player of the season. In October 2006, Tim was named as one of 50 nominees for the Ballon D’or, becoming the first Everton player in 18 years to be nominated. He played under David Moyes for his entire career at Everton and was known for his heading ability and passion for the famous club.

After 8 incredible years with Everton, Tim made the move to Major League Soccer in the U.S. He signed with the New York Red Bulls on July 23rd. His time at the club was marked by the team winning their first major silverware, the Supporters Shield as well as an ESPY for the best MLS player. On the 20th October 2013, Tim set a new MLS record by scoring the fastest goal in its history: in 7 seconds!

Following the successful campaign for the Socceroos in the 2015 Asian Cup, Tim announced that he would be continuing his incredible career in China. Tim signed for Shanghai Shenhua on February 3rd and began the next chapter of his football life in the Chinese Super League.
